There is a long history behind the origin of kumbh mela and it is been held for more than 200 years. The kumbh mela was first staged during the 12th century by his holiness the Chanakya dynasty, which was later on carried by the Maurya dynasty and Gupta dynasty till the medieval period. During the medieval period, when the Mughal emperor mostly taken over the Hindu rulers has stopped the celebration of the Kumbh mela for various years, up till back in the 18th century soon after the invasion of Mughal, the meal has started to be organized back again in the British era.
The origin of the kumh mela goes back 5000 years back in the history when during the “Samudra Manthan”, which is described as the event of the churning of the ocean to get the divine water (Amrita). As the Amrita was taken into a pot and flow over the skies by the Lord Shiva, during the journey, the four drops of the divine water have fallen in the four places which are Ujjain, Haridwar, Allahabad and Nasik. Since then, in order to mark respect to this event, the Kumbh Melas were held in each city in the gap of every 12 years.
